A Sacramento-area substitute teacher accused of multiple sex crimes involving children appeared in court for the first time on Monday. Ricky Anthony Linan, 58, pleaded not guilty to the eight counts he faces. Because Linan was employed in an after-school program under the San Juan Unified School District that includes at least nine of its schools, officials believe there may be additional victims.
The Citrus Heights Police Department said since it released the news of Linan's arrest, detectives have received many calls from concerned parents. Detectives expect more charges to be filed against Linan. A report of a possible sexual assault involving a substitute teacher first surfaced on Dec.
San Juan Unified said it immediately placed Linan on administrative leave and cut him off from contacting students during the investigation.
Police said detectives investigating the first sexual assault learned of additional alleged crimes. Robin Ryan, who has two grandchildren enrolled at one of the schools, is thinking of the alleged victims and their families.
Ryan said her children did not interact with Linan and she had never met him. She said it's important to have those difficult conversations with your kids.
